How to Maximise your Superannuation by 30 June 2026
Maximising your superannuation by 30 June 2026 can significantly boost your retirement savings and reduce your tax bill. Here's a practical guide to help you take advantage of the rules and strategies available before the EOFY deadline:
1. The concessional contributions cap for the 2026 financial year is $30,000. The concessional contributions cap increases to $32,500 from 1 July 2026
2. The non-concessional contributions cap is $120,000 for the 2026 financial year. If your total superannuation balance was less than $1.9 million on 30 June 2025, you may be able to make non-concessional contributions in 2025–26, subject to the applicable cap and bring-forward rules. The non-concessional contributions cap increases to $130,000 from 1 July 2026.
3. You may also consider triggering the bring-forward arrangement. This allows eligible individuals to bring forward up to 2 future years of their non-concessional cap and contribute up to $360,000 in one year.
| Total Super Balance (TSB) as at 30 June 2025 | Maximum Non-Concessional Cap Available ($) | Bring-Forward Period Allowed | Future Cap Years Triggered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Less than $1.66 million | $360,000 | 3 years | Current year + 2 future years |
| $1.66 million to less than $1.78 million | $240,000 | 2 years | Current year + 1 future year |
| $1.78 million to less than $1.90 million | $120,000 | No bring-forward | Current year only |
| $1.90 million or more | 0 | Not eligible | None |
Eligibility for the bring-forward arrangement depends on your total super balance and whether you are still eligible to make non-concessional contributions in the relevant year.
4. Use the Carry-Forward Concessional Contributions Rule
From 1 July 2018, if you have a total super balance of less than $500,000 on 30 June of the previous financial year, you will be able to carry forward your unused concessional contributions cap from the last 5 years.
Unused cap amounts can be carried forward for up to five years. An example of how the unused cap amounts carry forward is:
| Financial Year | Concessional Contributions Cap | Cumulative available unused Cap | Concessional contributions made | Available Carry forward Available next FY |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2020–21 | 25,000 | 25,000 | 0 | 25,000 |
| 2021–22 | 27,500 | 52,500 | 20,000 | 32,500 |
| 2022–23 | 27,500 | 60,000 | 30,000 | 30,000 |
| 2023–24 | 27,500 | 57,500 | 25,000 | 32,500 |
| 2024–25 | 30,000 | 62,500 | 40,000 | 22,500 |
Please contact your adviser if you wish to discuss the superannuation catch-up further. After 30 June 2026, any unused concessional contributions for the 2020–21 financial year will be lost.
