Promotion To submit an essay of no more than 3000 words on the topic of: “How can we collectively improve the public hospital system in NSW and ACT in a fiscally responsible manner with consideration for people, systems and technology?”
Skill or Chance This is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the winner. Each entry will be individually judged, based on individual creative merit. All entries must be an independent creation of the entrant and free of any claims that they infringe any third-party rights. Entries must not have been published previously and/or have been used to win prizes in any other competitions.

Entry Restrictions

The competition is open to all registered doctors who are employees, or Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), of a NSW or ACT Public Hospital.

The Promoter may require entrants and their companions to provide proof of employment in a form acceptable to the Promoter. Should an entrant or their companions be unable to satisfy this requirement, the entrant will be ineligible for the prize.

The judges reserve the right to disqualify any entrant submitting an entry which, in the opinion of the judges, includes objectionable content, including but not limited to profanity, nudity, potentially insulting, scandalous, inflammatory or defamatory images or language.

The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

All entries become and remain the property of the promoter from the date of submission.

Promotion Period The promotion begins at 9.00am on Tuesday 1 November 2016. Entries into the promotion closed at 5pm on Tuesday 28 February 2017. The Promotor reserves the right to withdraw or amend the competition as necessary due to circumstances outside its control.
Entry Method Online Entry Online Entry During the Promotion Period: entrants will be invited to visit the website and fully complete the online entry form to receive a Registration ID in the manner required, including providing their full name, mobile telephone number, current and valid email address.

All valid entries will be individually judged by representatives of the Promoter by Wednesday 31 May 2017. All valid entries will be judged based on the Judging Criteria. The winner will be notified in accordance with the Notification of Winners information set out below.

The decision of the judges is final and there is no right of appeal.

Judging Criteria All entries will be marked for, among other things:
  • The idea and supporting arguments must be clearly expressed, practical and capable of implementation
  • Evidence of consideration for people, systems and technology
  • The idea must be ethically sound
  • The ideas should be practical non-populist approaches ensuring equity in access to public hospital services
  • The ideas should be practical approaches ensuring equity in access to public hospital services
  • There should be consideration for public hospital services across rural/regional areas in comparison to metropolitan centres
  • The idea should consider how to develop a sustainable and appropriately skilled multidisciplinary hospital workforce across NSW and the ACT including the consideration of Doctors in Training
  • The implementation strategies and the potential for risk should be considered
  • What parameters will be used to define the success of your proposal; are there KPIs or metrics that you would monitor?
  • How should underperformance, with respect to these metrics, best be managed?

Judges are looking for a well-formed, original and interesting essay rather than a scientific work-paper. Judges are looking for ideas relating to a current issue in public health that require very little additional budget to implement.

The judges recognise that there is no one idea to fix the public hospital system but are looking for an idea(s) that can contribute

Please ensure you have a title and an introduction to your idea to set context and provide a high level overview. You should outline what a successful public hospital system could look like?

Terms By entering the competition, all entrants will be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these rules.

All entrants’ personal information will be handled in a way that complies with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act. We refer you to the Privacy Policy on the Bongiorno & Partners (NSW) Pty Ltd website.

Each entrant will be assigned a number. The judges will not know the identity of the entrant.

Any information provided to other parties will be on the basis of anonymity of the entrant unless specific written permission is given by an entrant.
